Now Things Are Different #1

An occasional series into why J&M think the way we do

C30, C60, C90 GO!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my dad brought this tape home* that someone at work had done for him.

I ‘borrowed’ it, and probably played it every day for months. There’s probably little oxide left on the tape itself. I’ve made a digital playlist of it instead.

It was all very weird.

I remember hearing the second side first…

“What the fuck is this?”

For two minutes, there’s some beeping noise. The Peter Gunn riff. Some women shrieking down a mineshaft. Then some guy starts shouting about people not having heads.

Side One starts with someone learning to play the bass WHILE they are recording him.

That track list in full

Side One

Sons & Fascination — Simple Minds

In Trance As Mission

Sweat In Bullet

To Cities As Love

Brings The Fall

Boys From Brazil

The Earth You Walk Upon

Sons & Fascination

Seeing Out The Angel

Side Two

Planet Claire — B52s

Brave Boys

Poppies — The Teardrop Explodes

Planet Earth

Girl U Want — Devo

I Gotta Getta

Teenage Kicks — The Undertones

Private Life

Up The Neck — Pretenders

The American — Simple Minds

Good Rocking’ Tonight — Wynonie Harris

Work With Me Annie — Hank Ballard

Fever — Little Willie John

Like I said, all very weird. I was only 11. I don’t think I ever thought about music, or anything really after one listen.

What’s changed the way you think? Leave a comment ;-)
